​​About the Heritage Committee 

​

The IPCA Heritage Committee works to protect and celebrate the historical and architectural character of Island Park. Led by the Heritage Chair, the committee monitors heritage properties, advises on development impacts, and organizes community initiatives like heritage walks and storytelling events. It also supports efforts to document and preserve the area’s rich cultural legacy for current and future generations.

Committee Chair Role – Heritage

​

The Chair champions the preservation and promotion of Island Park’s unique historical and architectural heritage.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor heritage properties and advocate for preservation

  • Liaise with heritage planners and local historians

  • Coordinate heritage walks, storytelling events, or archival projects

  • Advise on heritage impacts of development proposals

 

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a record of notable buildings and community history

  • Promote awareness of Island Park’s cultural and architectural past

  • Support education initiatives for residents and schools

  • Submit and lead on the IPC heritage designation application
