About the Traffic and Transportation Committee
The IPCA Traffic and Transportation Committee focuses on making Island Park Drive safer and more accessible for everyone—whether walking, biking, driving, or using public transit. Led by the Traffic & Transportation Chair, the committee monitors road safety concerns, works with city and federal partners, and advocates for traffic calming and infrastructure improvements. Its goal is to ensure community voices are heard in decisions that affect mobility and safety.​​

Committee Chair Role – Traffic and Transportation
The Chair oversees traffic, road safety, and active transportation issues, advocating for improvements and ensuring the community’s concerns are raised with relevant authorities.
Key Responsibilities:​​

Monitor traffic patterns, speeding, and congestion

Liaise with City transportation staff, National Capital Commission, RCMP and Ottawa Police.

Develop and advocate for safer pedestrian and cycling infrastructure

Present traffic calming solutions to the Board and City

Present IPCA traffic safety recommendation to the NCC, City and Board.

Represent the IPCA externally at meetings, events and conferences related to City of Ottawa Traffic.
Committee Responsibilities:

Identify and prioritize trouble areas or intersections

Coordinate studies or surveys if needed

Advocate for public transit improvements and reduced cut-through traffic
