John Frederick Booth
407 IPD
John Frederick Booth was born June 3, 1865 and died at age 67 on August 5, 1930.
He was the second son of JR Booth, the wealthiest lumber baron in North America, whose land holdings were larger than France, and estate $44M CDN at the time of his death in 1922.
JF was the Vice President and General Manager of JR Booth’s lumber empire, and father of two sons and Princess Erik (Lois Booth) of Denmark.
The Booth family contribution to both our Capital and Country is immeasurable. John Rudolphus Booth was one of the original Ottawa lumber operators, arriving the same time as other lumeber entrepreneurs, such as Henry Bronson, W.G. Perley, John Harris and E.B. Eddy.
By 1890, Booth had overtaken them all to become the largest lumber producer in the world, owning tracts of land larger than France, and built the Canadian Atlantic Railway from Georgian Bay to Vermont where his lumber was shipped throughout the world (Wikipedia).
The Booth family wealth enabled them to build lavishly appointed homes on large double lot parcels using the finest building materials.
