ISLAND PARK DRIVE, OTTAWA, ON; July 21, 2025 – Island Park Drive, one of Ottawa’s most historic and prestigious neighbourhoods, has set a new Ottawa record this Canada Day by raising 132 Canadian flags—the most ever displayed on a single street in the city.

What began as a modest effort with just 16 flags in May quickly grew into a spirited community-wide campaign led by the Island Park Community Association (IPCA). Residents responded enthusiastically, decorating homes, gardens, and balconies with flags of all sizes in a shared expression of pride and patriotism.
On July 1st, volunteers counted and photographed 132 flags waving proudly along the iconic tree-lined boulevard.
“Island Park Drive is one of Ottawa’s best-known neighbourhoods, and with thousands of people visiting and travelling through our community daily, this display of pride is not only uplifting for our community but a visible reminder of the pride we take in our history, our neighbours, and our country,” said Robert Simpson, President of the Island Park Community Association
To help foster participation, the Association, through a donation, distributed flags to residents and encouraged them to share what they love about Island Park Drive and Canada through short videos on the Association’s Instagram.
Island Park Drive’s achievement mirrors a broader national trend, with Canadian flag sales breaking records this year as communities look for ways to express unity and pride during challenging times.
The Great Orillia Flag Challenge remains a prominent flag display competition. Harvie Settlement Road was named the winner with an average of 95 flags per home.
