First-Ever National Capital Greenbelt Forum Hope to Bring Community Voices Together

The Island Park Community Association (IPCA) is pleased to announce that the Canadian
Parks and Wilderness Society–Ottawa Valley (CPAWS-OV) will host its first National Capital
Greenbelt Forum on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Canadian Museum of
Nature. This event marks the launch of a new campaign dedicated to ensuring the Greenbelt is protected, connected, and restored for future generations.

The forum hopes to bring together community associations, environmental organizations, and other key stakeholders from across the region to exchange ideas and help shape stronger protections for this vital natural resource. The afternoon will feature expert presentations on conservation, planning, and stewardship, as well as a keynote address by
Dr. David Gordon of Queen’s University, a leading expert in urban planning in Canada’s National Capital Region. Participants will also take part in collaborative discussions exploring shared priorities and challenges, culminating in the presentation of five “big ideas” to guide the future management of the Greenbelt.
