July 25, 2025: Ottawa Fire Services has implemented an open air fire ban across the City of Ottawa.
This means that campfires, brush piles, and wood burning outdoor fireplaces and firepits are prohibited until further notice.
“A fire ban is declared by the Fire Chief or his designate and is based largely on environmental conditions,” OFS says on its website. “It is a period of time where no one may set or maintain any open air fire anywhere within the city limits. This is to ensure public safety and protection of property.”
Ottawa has experienced prolonged high temperatures increasing the likelihood of fires.
Friday, July 26, is expected to reach 28 C, with highs reaching 32 C by Monday, according to Environment Canada.
Ottawa has received approximately 48 mm of rain in July, compared to 154 mm in July 2024.
