Bike Theft on Island Park Highlights Need for Bike Safety

A recent bike theft in our neighbourhood has raised concerns for one local family and serves as a reminder for residents to keep bikes securely locked.
Local resident Minoo Henry’s eight-year-old son left his bicycle unattended for just a few minutes before it was stolen. The family shared photos online in hopes of recovering the bike, but it has not yet been returned.
Ottawa police and local bike advocates encourage residents to record their bike’s serial number, register it through 529 Garage and use a strong lock, such as a U-lock. Alex Michelle from Bushtukah also notes that the best way to protect a bike is to make it inconvenient to steal.
